St. George's church is a comparatively new building by Clive Alexander, constructed in 1974 to replace an earlier Victorian Stone church nearby. Its unadorned brickwork, translucent clerestorey, minimal structure and rigorous geometry create a church space of great serenity. The vicar wanted to retain the positive qualities, but with more flexible space. More rooms for social and parochial uses, including a new chapel, were inserted, leaving the original church in near cubic volume, allowing a more rounded liturgy.
